B i o g r a p h y

Mathilde de Jenlis was born in 1991 in St. Germain en Laye, France and began studying the violin at the age of five. In 2007, she graduated from the International School Le Verseau in Belgium and was admitted to Philippe Koch’s class at the Royal Conservatory of Liège, as a ‘Young Talent’.

In 2015, she graduated with a Master’s degree in Pedagogy (with distinction) from the Royal Conservatory in Brussels, where she studied under Shirly Laub. In 2015, Mathilde also graduated with a Master’s degree in Event Management (also with distinction), from the Institute of Advanced Social Communication (IHECS) in Brussels.

In 2017, Mathilde graduated with a Master’s (MMus) degree in Performance, specializing in Irish traditional music, from the Conservatory of Music and Drama at the Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT).

Mathilde has taken part in masterclasses with renowned professors such as Eliot Lawson, Tatiana Samuil and Alexei Moshkov.

Mathilde frequently performs with chamber music groups and orchestras in Belgium, Ireland and France and has also performed in Norway, Benin, New York, Canada and elsewhere, She has taken part in numerous festivals, such as the East-West International Chamber Music Festival in Louvain-la-Neuve, the Corroy Music Festival, the Wallonia Music Festival and the Musiq'3 Festival.

​Mathilde was a laureate in the international "Rovere d'Oro Giovani Talenti" music competition in Italy.

She has also been Konzertmeister (leader) with the Brussels Youth Symphony Orchestra, the Dublin Institute of Technology Symphony Orchestra, as well as with other orchestras.

​In 2015, Mathilde founded the East-West Chamber Orchestra, based in Brussels, and is now its manager.  

Alongside her classical training, Mathilde has studied the jazz violin with Florence Fourcade.

She also plays pop and traditional violin in the Belgian-based band Clac et Les Portes, which reached the finals of the Belgian heats for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2011.

Mathilde has also performed in pop musicals and shows such as Pampero or The Gavroches of the Music Hall in Belgium.

With her amplified violin, she frequently performs with DJs at a variety of events, shows and private parties. She has also played for the fashion show Bubble Dream, doubling up as a model on the catwalk.

​Mathilde also trained in ballet and modern jazz dance at the Academy of Music in Rixensart, Belgium.
